Sharpening Services

Where Precision Meets Craft

At Apex Knife Co., sharpening isn’t just a service, it’s a craft. Every knife that comes through our shop is treated with the same care as if it were our own. We don’t use pull-through grinders or shortcuts. Every edge is sharpened by hand – guiding every pass, monitoring heat, and checking our progress on some of the best professional-grade equipment in the industry.

Most knives are sharpened on the Perfect Edge PE-2 tower, a machine engineered for consistent, precise edges across high volumes. More delicate sharpening is done on our TSPROF K03 Pro precision guided system. Hair shears and other fine tools are handled on the Hira-To Flat Hone, delivering precise and polished results weather we are restoring your high-end shears or just touching them up between clients.

We assess every knife before sharpening:

  • Edge geometry: Should it be thin and slicey, or toothy and durable?
  • Steel composition: Does it need a refined micro-bevel or a high-polish apex?
  • End use: Will it be used for fine prep work, field dressing, or everyday utility?

It’s Not Just About Sharp – It’s About Right

A knife can be sharp but wrong. If the angle’s off, the steel overheated, or the edge over-ground, it won’t last—and it won’t cut the way it was designed to. Whether you are a home cook looking for a complete edge restoration or a professional kitchen in need of quick, professional, high-volume service, bring all of your cutting tools to Apex Knife Co for the best knife sharpening experience in Colorado – Guaranteed.

⚠️ We Do Not Sharpen Fake Damascus or Pot Metal Knives⚠️

At Apex Knife Co., we are committed to quality, safety, and craftsmanship. Over the past several years, an increasing number of knives have entered the market claiming to be “handmade Damascus” or “USA forged” or similar, but are actually made from low-quality and toxic pot metal, often imported from overseas and falsely labeled in order to intentionally misguide buyers.

These knives are:

  • Not real Damascus – The patterns are acid or laser etched, and not forged from layered steels like traditional damascus.
  • Misleadingly labeled – Many are intentionally mislabeled and stamped with “USA” or fake maker’s marks to deceive buyers at gun shows, flea markets, malls, and online marketplaces. 🚩 Some local sellers have claimed that these are made in Denver or that the source cannot be revealed.🚩
  • Made from pot metal – A low-strength mix of metals and fillers that often contains lead, zinc, cadmium, mercury, and other toxic materials.
  • Unsafe to sharpen – These blades can chip, delaminate, or even crumble during sharpening. They will not stay sharp and they clog and degrade our professional abrasives.
  • Unsafe to use – Lead, zinc, cadmium, and other materials found in these knives are known to be toxic, and can be unsafe to eat, breath, or touch. We highly discourage the use of these types of knives in the kitchen or to prepare food.
  • Presents a hazard to our customers – We sharpen a lot of knives, including many for local restaurants, and we are committed to safety by preventing cross-contamination through our machines and workspace. The toxic materials found in many of these knives may compromise the safety of our tools, our employees, and our customers.
  • Will not stay sharp – Due to the poor-quality metal, these blades will not hold a sharp edge – no matter how well they’re sharpened. Rather than waste your money and our time, we choose to educate our customers and provide real value through quality craftsmanship and honest service.

If you’re unsure whether your knife is real steel, bring it in. We’re happy to take a look and help you understand what you have. We believe in educating, and we want our customers to feel informed, confident, and excited about the knives they use.

🧪 We are happy to offer free lead testing on questionable “damascus” in order to help keep both our customers and employees informed, safe, and sharp!
